I love Gothic cathedrals, but I’m also drawn to the modern ones, the buildings put up in the last hundred years in concrete, steel and glass, where the architects had to work out what a cathedral means now rather than copy the past. They don’t always get it right, but when they do, they can be just as moving as anything medieval, and they make me look again at the old ones.
